Product Types
The basic structure, reporting and details of a product are dependent on the product type. The following product types are supported by Solteq Commerce Cloud.
Basic Products
Basic products are (usually physical) products which can be stored. They can be sold separately, are not modified in any way when they are sold, and do not have variants or customizable components. Prices for basic products are usually fixed. If a product is delivered from wholesale with its own identifier (bar code/SKU), it is a basic product. In Solteq Commerce Cloud basic products are linked to stock by using SKU codes, and stocking is performed separately by using Stock Handling.
In principle, all products are in some way measurable in stock, but in Solteq Commerce Cloud the term basic product refers to a single unmodified product, which does not have a main model, nor it is comprised of ingredients. Custom products can contain basic products.

Service Products
Service Product is a product type for a service that is produced by some resource (a person or a system). Service products can be customized with service ingredients/components. They cannot be added to Stock.
For more information, see Service Product Settings .
Variant Products
Variant products refers to product types where the product has a main model and a model number, as well as sub-models (=variants) derived from it. Variants are comprised of attributes given to the main model; from every attribute or combination of attributes a new product - a variant - is generated. For example, items of clothing are often variants, because the main model has attributes such as colour and size. Every colour-size combination is one variant, which has its own identifier (bar code and/or SKU), as well as usually its own image file associated with it.
For more information, see Variant Product Settings.
Custom Products
Custom products are products which contain ingredients, and therefore are made according to recipes. This enables ingredient-based pricing, where the price of the product can be comprised of the base price, sum price of the ingredients, as well as other options.
Custom products typically contain ingredients whose value is measured in stock, and the product itself is comprised of these ingredients, each with its own measurement units, dosage and price. It is also possible to insert different dosages of ingredients and assortments to replace default ingredients. By using custom products, sales of food items and pricing principles of a meal can be completely based on the customer's choices.

Gift Card Products
Gift card products are used to represent gift cards sold on POS. Gift card products do not have their own prices; a gift card’s price in the basket will be the value of the particular gift card which is sold.
Gift card products have the following characteristics:
Gift cards cannot be added as product tiles to the POS layout; however, it is possible to add a Sell gift card action tile to the layout. In addition, gift cards are excluded from product search in the POS.
Gift cards cannot be added to Stock.
Discounts cannot be used with gift cards.
